TPS/PVC cables in contact with polystyrene products

17Aug
PVC Cables - Fibre optic installations Port Moresby, PNG

TPS/PVC cable insulation can be compromised by a chemical reaction if it is in contact with polystyrene. Make sure you check the insulation is undamaged before installing this cable and always follow the cable manufacturer’s instructions.

The plasticiser in cable insulation PVC to make it flexible and tough is not chemically bonded to the PVC and will slowly leach out of the cable over time. The process of cable losing plasticisers increases when the cable is in contact with other materials, such as polystyrene and polyurethane. The leaching of the plasticiser will cause the cable’s PVC material to become harder, more brittle and prone to cracking. This could mean live conductors will be exposed, and possibly result in electric shock or fire.

Reducing your electric shock risk: safety for unterminated cables

28Jun
Reducing electric shock risk - Electrical installations Port Moresby, PNG

There are many different causes of electric shock, but one particularly hazardous risk comes from unterminated live cables.

In the last year, there were over 300 electrical shocks reported to the Queensland Electrical Safety Office—and ten per cent of those reports related to unterminated cables becoming live. Anyone coming into contact with unterminated live cables is at significant risk of serious injury or death from electric shock.

But there are a few easy ways to manage this hazard:

Signs it might be time to replace your plumbing

Replace plumbing - Building management Port Moresby, PNG

http://www.beastskills.com/site-rearrangement-and-training-log-updated/

Like all other materials that make up a building, your plumbing and pipes will eventually deteriorate. Unfortunately, it’s a big job to replace them, but a very important one—for many reasons, including the health and safety risks that come from corroding and decaying tubing.

Over a few decades, your plumbing system will rust and corrode, and eventually it’ll start causing leaks or floods, which could be raw sewage.

That will obviously cause serious damage to your building, which will easily cost thousands of dollars in repairs. And if it’s your home, you’ll be counting both the financial and the sentimental loss.

These disasters are thankfully rare, because you’ll usually get plenty of warning signs before they happen.

But if you take the time to properly assess your plumbing system, you’ll be able to determine when it’s time to replace it -and that could be sooner than you thought.

Is it time to upgrade your commercial switchboard and mains power?

14Dec
switchboard - Electrical engineering services Port Moresby, PNG

Commercial buildings use a lot of electricity. With compulsory emergency lighting, reams of telecommunications and data usage, and air-conditioning blasting for most of the hours in a day, there’s a lot of demand on their switchboards. And if your commercial building is old, and the original switchboard is still in use, it could be prone to overload—power consumption was a lot lower a few decades ago, and these panels simply weren’t designed to withstand what we throw at them now.
